Asbestos Garage Roof Removal and Garage Demolition

Asbestos garage roof removal is one of the most common queries we have. As well as the numerous garage roofs we have queries about entire garages and sheds made of asbestos cement and garages with only suspected asbestos ceilings.

The most common occurrence are corrugated asbestos garage roofs which are to be found in their millions across the country. These were built between the 1930s and 1980s and the vast majority of these do contain asbestos. These are Asbestos Cement which is a bonded material where the likelihood of fibre release is very low assuming there is no damage

We need to know whether the garage or outbuilding does actually contain asbestos. If there is a doubt then we can carry out an inspection and sampling to confirm whether asbestos is present.

Does the Asbestos Garage Roof need to be removed

Even if the roof is asbestos then asbestos removal is not necessarily required!

Where the garage roof has cracks, damage or exposed fibres then the best course of action is likely to be removal. If you are planning any major works, converting or demolishing your garage then again the roof is going to have to be removed. Our fully UKATA trained operatives can carry this out and dispose of the waste at a licensed carrier site.

If there is little damage, no exposed fibres and no cracking then the risk of fibre release is low. If so and you are not envisaging any change to this such as undertaking a refurbishment project then you can usually leave the garage roof in situ. You will however need to monitor the roof looking out for deterioration and ensuring the roof is not damaged or broken in future thereby releasing fibres.

Asbestos Garage Demolition

We regularly carry out demolition and disposal of full garages, outbuildings , sheds and smaller and commercial buildings.

We often remove the asbestos cement roofing and cladding and the remove the full structure down to slab level.

We are able to offer advice and guidance concerning whole asbestos structures and can put forward a cost for removal. It is likely to be necessary to have a look at the building in person or at least have photographs to go on with full asbestos cement garages or sheds.

Disposal of Asbestos Garage Roof Sheets

Where the roof has already been removed then we can dispose of the asbestos waste safely at a licensed waste carrier site. The asbestos sheets should be double wrapped in thick polythene sheeting and sealed with strong tape. We can ensure any asbestos is safely wrapped prior to transportation.

Asbestos in Garage Ceilings

Beware that garage ceilings can also be lined with Asbestos Cement or with the more dangerous Asbestos Insulation Board or similar board products. Asbestos Insulation Board is a notifiable licensed material and more likely to release asbestos fibres if disturbed than asbestos cement. It is important that there are no raw edges with this material. If the garage ceiling is suspected to contain asbestos then it is important to have it checked to identify exactly what is there and what action is necessary. The treatment will vary according to factors such as the type of asbestos, condition and whether the asbestos is likely to be disturbed.

As a specialist asbestos company we are often called in when asbestos is suspected in garage ceilings and elsewhere, to clarify what exactly is present and to recommend the best and safest course of action.
